So one of the great things about college is the clubs. There’s your clubs like club sports and glee club and stuff like that. Then there are the cool clubs, like Formula SAE, Baja SAE, and Solar Car SAE.

The Baja SAE team lets newcomers drive their Baja buggies on their test track to get them interested in the club. The two don’t do that.

Needless to say, I joined the Baja SAE team. And I must say, I love it. I love it very much.

Unfortunately when working with race cars, things break. All of the cars but one broke today, but it was very fun, and very muddy. More mud = More fun

I’m not exactly looking forward to all the time it’s going to take to fix these with the first actual race being this weekend, but eh, I did good enough where I might-just might-be able to drive one of these things in an actual race soon.

Let’s go college! And stay muddy out there!

Interesting. That baja looks awesome! I’m not an engineer so I wasn’t really accepted into our SAE teams, but that makes sense. Also, our Baja SAE team is Women’s only.

So, I helped start an endurance racing team. We’re going to run a Chumpcar.

That sounds awesome! Thankfully here Baja and Solar are open to everyone, the Formula guys are a little...uptight. Why’s your Baja team women’s only?

I was on an FSAE Team for two years and never got to drive the car, I'm jealous

The engineering students will typically take all the available driving, fabrication, and maintenance roles. However, some teams will bring in business or other majors to polish up other facets of competition.

I’m an Aeronautical Science major, (nothing special, just a Commercial pilot degree)

lucky for you, Formula SAE likes wings, Wings, and MORE WINGS!

It takes a lot of airfoil to make meaningful downforce under 60 mph. So, they have big wings on little cars.

I’m well aware. I tried to tell the guys on our team when I was viewing the car that their airfoil is rough enough from moulding, even after paint and sanding that it could be decreasing the efficiency.

They said they don’t go fast enough for it to make a difference, but I know that frost on the wings of a Cessna can cause it to fall out of the sky at 60mph.

Oh well. Their loss. I think I’m going to put a huge active aero kit on our Chumpcar just to spite them Lol
